This custom lettering is based on the energy and history of New Orleans.
I did a lot of research for this project and brainstormed a word list that best fits New Orleans. The word I chose to best represent this city is buzzing.
Everything in this city is buzzing with life, even the streets of New Orleans are said to buzz with an indescribable energy.
Besides the livelihood of the city, New Orleans is known for its history.
My lettering had to be fun but it also had to pay homage to the origins of the city. I focused on four aspects of the city that felt most important to me.
Haunted, rhythmic, diverse, and unity.
After the research and designing the lettering, I felt Soul You Can See as a headline worked perfectly with everything I was building up. It blends together the haunted, historic, and rhythmic aspects of New Orleans.
Playing on the multiple meanings behind the word soul. A soul can be referred to as a ghost or it can be seen as the literal embodiment of someone's energy coming to life. It also refers to the very popular genre of music, Soul.
My custom lettering is seen in the word New Orleans and the N is used as a typographic design element in the background.
