This is one of my favorite pieces I've done. I started off doing the skull and it was one of those projects that just felt right. I learned the importance of detail and how even one small smudge of charcoal can change a whole project. Doing the statue of Mary was fun since the stone felt like I was doing a stylized portrait. I love the details in the neck and how the worn-down statue made it look like she was crying.
Done in charcoal.

I originally started this project with the intent to do a skull and a mausoleum. I spent about six hours doing the piece on the left (which was my second attempt at trying to make it work) and then decided to scrap it. It didn't feel right for this project and I ended up realizing I wanted something more personable and emotional for this project.
Wanna-be ASMR video of me finishing off my project by peeling off the tape and using fixative spray.
